Mezcal Vago is a curator brand — every bottle names the specific palenquero and village. Three of the four active maestros produce copper-pot artesanal mezcal; only Salomón “Tío Rey” Rey Rodríguez (Red Label, Sola de Vega) works in clay pots.

Per masmezcal.com direct: “For distillation, Tío Rey uses a series of clay pots. The clay pots are called ‘Olla de Barro’ in Spanish.” Only Tío Rey’s Ensamble en Barro and Espadín en Barro are clay-pot ancestral method.

Emigdio Jarquín’s bottlings (blue label, El Nanche, Miahuatlán) use a copper alembic still with a refrescador for Madrecuishe and Arroqueño — not clay. Joel Barriga’s bottlings and the well-known Elote (Aquilino García) are also copper-pot.

6 SKUs — 1 ancestral ★

Bottles from this producer we've verified in US distribution — each row cites a source. ★ marks true ancestral: the cited source must explicitly state both clay-pot distillation AND wooden-mallet or tahona milling for this specific bottle. Producer-line statements ("our whole line uses X") do not qualify — verification must be per-bottle. Copper-distilled, shredder-milled, or citation-gap bottles are listed but not starred.
