Cuentacuentos is a Sola de Vega–centered curator project distributed in the US by Craft Distillers / Caddell & Williams. Every bottle names its specific maestro, and the catalog splits along family lines: the Cruz family (Ángel Cruz Robles, his 86-year-old grandfather Ángel Cruz Calvo, and Miguel Cruz Rios) work in clay pots. Other Cuentacuentos maestros — Serafín García Gerónimo, Everardo García Salvador, Laurentino Santos, Cristina García García, Benigno Sanchez Gatica — use copper alembics.
The clay-pot Cruz bottlings are hand-mallet milled and wild-yeast fermented in accordance with strict ancestral method. Cuentacuentos “Espadín Artesanal (Robles)” is an unusual case — the label says Artesanal, the still is clay pot, but the milling was mechanical shredder. That disqualifies it from CRM Ancestral certification and from a ★ on this site, because our strict rule requires both clay-pot distillation and mazo/tahona milling. It’s listed but not starred.
Palenquero attribution rotates by batch (Coyote and Tobalá Ancestral have both Robles and Calvo bottlings). Check the specific label for producer identity.
